The basic thing is that the floor should be finished with rough aggregate material like ballast or gravel. If it is a terrazzo finish, make sure it is not slippery. That will increase the traction of the tires. For the temporary types, aluminum is recommended because of its ductility and malleability. It is light and does not rust. It is easy to install because it is light to lift and twist around until the pieces are together. Compared to other metals, aluminum is cheap considering that it is not even necessary to paint it. That is apparently the reason why it has replaced wood in the manufacture of ramps.
